Recently at my place of work I was asked to fill out a 10 question thing that they put in our monthly newsletter.  One of the questions was who your childhood hero was.  I couldn't really think of any so I crossed that out and put that my 2 adult heroes are the Dalai Lama and Joss Whedon.

I ran across a rant that Joss posted yesterday that I wanted to link that perfectly illustrates why I would list him as my hero:

And for anyone who may have missed it before - a link to a speech that Joss made last year at an Equality Now function that was honoring him:

The two links pretty much say it all.  Takes my breath away.  Love that man.

So Fox has been inundating us with advertisments for Drive.  Not only do I pass at least 3 billboards for it while on my way to work, they have now blacked out the windows of the News Cafe and Moe's Cafe with these hideous window paintings advertising the show.  Uh, we work on the lot - do they really think we aren't aware of our own programming?

Anyway I was super excited when I went down this morning with the Coffee Brigade because what did we see?  Two trucks from the show flanking either side of the doors to our building - one of which is the beat up truck for Tully's Landscaping!  A little side-note for those not in the know, Nathan Fillion plays Alex Tully, Rogue Landscaper.  No, I do not know what a 'rogue landscaper' is and neither apparently does NF.

Actually my initial thought upon seeing the truck was hey how come they don't have him sitting in the truck, here to talk about the show.  But I'm thinking it's a good thing he's not or I'm fairly certain a conversation like such would take place in our office:

Lisa (my boss):  "Hey where's Christine?  I haven't seen her in quite awhile."
Any of my Co-workers:  "Oh she's been downstairs staring at that Nathan Fillion guy for about 3 hours now.  I asked her if she was going to go over and talk to him and she just looked at me like I was crazy."

Yeah, probably better that he's not here.
fangirls

As I was driving on to the Fox lot this morning I noticed that of the 4 billboards lining the front of the lot one (the biggest one) is an advert for Drive and another of the smaller ones (right in the middle) is an advert for Waitress.  Even though, sadly, neither of the billboards actually features the lovely Nathan Fillion it was nice to see some love for his coming up the soonest projects.  Good for him.

Actually since those are the soonest of many upcoming awesome things that I can't wait for,  I've decided to do a laundry list  - behind a cut for the sake of everyone - of all the super exciting awesomely fantatiscal things that I'm looking forward to during the rest of this year.

So much to geek out over, so little time.  What's a fangirl to do?

fuckyes
I want to start this by saying that on Friday morning I read in 2 places that the first issue of the Buffy comic had sold out it's first printing (which came out on Wed) already.  So yay!  I just hope that the second issue does just as well because that means that people are responding well to the first one.

On to the weekend.

I actually have more to post about but I need to go to bed and this is already insufferably long that I will save it for tomorrow.

......the rest of us can't wait to see what's coming next!

On a little side note, I was going to post that despite the fact that I almost couldn't wait until the end of the day to get issue #1 (dammit why is the lunch hour only an hour!  Curse it!), I felt that I should have points taken from the geeky fangirl column and added to the regular person column because I did actually stop and eat the dinner I picked up on the way home before reading.  Yeah, then I scrubbed my hands like a surgeon after eating said dinner before I would pick up the book and decided it would be better to call it a wash.

Edited to add:  here is a link to an interview with Joss and the other lovelies who are writing the comic with him.

Edited again to add:  here is a link to a 4 part interview with Joss.

Yes, I do realize that it's only a week away (March) but I simply cannot wait! And why? Why you ask can I not wait for March?

On a little side note Matt (who sits in the cube behind me) was in line at the News Cafe this morning with last night's American Idol rejects.  It appears Fox was saying 'Hey Dawg, we know we just destroyed your dreams but cheer up, breakfast is on us.'

Banana

Well so far LA has been good to me.

I am writing this from my desk at my brandy new job......well sort of new.  I've actually been here since the beginning of December but today is the first day of my second 'official' week at Fox Sports.  Yes, that's right - not only am I working for Fox Sports but I'm working in the Marketing department where we campaign to get people to watch sports.  No, it doesn't make any sense to me either.  But I'm working for a studio - hooray!  I'm working on the Fox lot - hooray!  There are just too many good extra little things to mention here - HOORAY!!  I haven't really seen any truly famous people yet (I think I saw Marc Blucas with a shaved head the other day though) but eventually I'm bound to run into someone.  An asian woman in scrubs about mowed me down in the News Cafe one day last week so spotting Hugh Laurie can't be far behind.  :-)

So life in LA, so far has largely been about getting the job thing squared away and trying to get into some semblance of a routine (I'm getting there).   We've been to see a few movies and we went to a screening of Pan's Labryinth with a Q&A with Guillermo del Toro following - that was awesome (both the movie and the Q&A).  We also went New Year's weekend to see Getty Villa.  It was lovely - all ancient art - Grecian, Roman and African.  I saw some artwork depicting the mythology that part of Sailor Moon was based on (Seline and Endymion) and something else as well but I can't remember what it was.

One thing I will say for LA - I love the weather here.  LOVE it!  When I was going to post this update last week I was going to say that the milder climate is much better for my arthritis but then last week it snowed in Malibu.  And I will repeat that because it bears repeating - it snowed in MALIBU!  WTF?!?  All kidding aside (it really did snow in Malibu though) even with the recent cold front that we had my arthritis has been better because it's mostly mild around where I live and work.

Well that's it for now.  I'm going to try to make my posts more frequent and much shorter from now on.  :P

So awhile back the newest addition to our little accounting department, Kristi, and I were discussing Mr Orlando Bloom and how neither or us really care for his current look - the raggedy ponytail. Yes, yes he has to keep the hair long he's filming. Whatever. Anyway, Kristi went on to mention that she doesn't recall his hair being any other way.

I was completely shocked and apalled. That's just so wrong. *shudder* No fauxhawk? No Drew hair? No Paris hair?!?!!

Of course this had to be remedied. I took it upon myself to educate her. I mean she's new to our dept. and I've been training her...she's my girl, I have to look out for her. Plus I'm older and wiser so it's just my job, no - my duty to set her on the right path on important issues such as this.

I'll have you know I took my responsibility to her very seriously. And it wasn't easy! I had to go through hundreds of pics of the man...picture after picture, looking at that incredible hair. Well it was a tough job but it had to be done.

So without further ado (what is ado and why should there be no further of it?) here it is - Orlando's Hair 101

I'm just drifting here.

I've been watching Ruroni Kenshin for....well forever. There are 22 discs in the series - 95 episodes and I just watched the last one on Sunday. It's weird that Netflix is sending me Shanghai Triad this week instead of more Kenshin.

And! I believe I mentioned in the last post the constant pestering by a certain sister to read a certain book which led to a certain brain breakage....which she really had no problem with - anyway - I did read it. Great book! Of course it was the first book in a series and I'm hooked and too broke to buy the next one.....

So drifting.

Despite the pestering, I have joined forces with said sister - who we will call, oh let's say, Miss-Pants-on-Fire - to start our brandy new forum. You can check it out here:

To kick it off.......

Impossible Beauty Standard, Party of All - Impossible Beauty Standard....Party. of. All.

http://www.fluideffect.com/index2.html

If you will follow the link above and go to the before/after section of the portfolio.....G damn! It's basically a bunch of photos of celebrities - the page loads with the published airbrused pic and if you click on 'before' it will show you the original shot. W.T.F! I know that pictures are airbrushed all the time but damn. I mean this kind of crap is the reason that we (and yes I am saying that collectively as a society we have these issues at large) have body issues and low self esteem. I mean let's face it, they are taking the top of the gene pool - looks wise (or what our society says is) and they are saying - 'No, sorry, you're still not good enough. You can't have moles and freckles, definitely no wrinkles, no veins showing....' Bah!

Uh, I think I may have forgotten what else I was going to post about. Damn.

I blame my sister.......she's been pestering me daily to start this series of books that's she's been reading so we can talk about them. She must have pestered me extra hard tonight and broken my brain. :P Guess what I'll be doing this weekend.......
